In pushing for gun control, Biden erroneously says, 'You're not allowed to own a flamethrower'

President Joe Biden recently and falsely claimed that it's illegal to own a flamethrower in the United States while giving remarks on the economy, job market, and of course the recent school shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville.

As reported by Fox News, the president once again remarked on the Second Amendment, claiming he is a "Second Amendment guy," before explaining that he does not believe it to be absolute. The president then explained what he believed were types of weapons civilians are not allowed to own.

"We need to act. These are weapons of war," Biden said while giving comments in Durham, North Carolina.

"I'm a Second Amendment guy – I have two shotguns. ... You know, but our states – everybody thinks somehow the Second Amendment is absolute," he continued.

"You're not allowed to go out and own an automatic weapon. ... You're not allowed to own a machine gun. You're not allowed to own a flamethrower. You're not allowed to own so many other things," the president claimed.

"Why in God's name do we allow these weapons of war in our streets and at our schools?" he concluded.

However, flamethrowers are certainly legal in the United States and are not considered to be a firearm by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, according to Fox News.

President Biden often makes exaggerated statements about the idea of citizenry owning powerful weapons in order to ward off a government attack. For example, in June 2021 Biden said, “If you wanted or if you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons."

"The point is that there has always been the ability to limit — rationally limit the type of weapon that can be owned and who can own it," he explained.

The White House did not respond to the outlet's request for comment on the matter.

In 2018, Elon Musk discussed on "The Joe Rogan Experience" how his company the Boring Company developed a consumer product called the "Not-A-Flamethrower."

As well, many popular YouTube channels showcase flamethrowers on the platform.
