'Reckless, cowardly act': Mass shooting at Baltimore block party leaves 2 dead, 28 injured

Two people have died and 28 more were injured in a mass shooting at a block party in Baltimore early Sunday morning, Baltimore City Police said.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott described the incident as a "reckless, cowardly act" that "permanently altered many lives and cost two people their lives."

"I want those responsible to hear me, hear me very clearly. We will not stop until we find you, and we will find you. Until then, I hope that with every single breath that you take that you think about the lives that you took and you think about the lives that you impacted here tonight."

Officers responded to multiple calls of a reported shooting in the 800 block of Gretna Court around 12:35 a.m, Baltimore Police Department Acting Commissioner Richard Worley said in a press conference. When they arrived, they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

The preliminary count of victims is 30.

An 18-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the scene. A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after transport to a local hospital.

Nine victims in addition to the two deceased where transported from the scene to area hospitals, and 20 more walked into hospitals across the region.

The victims range in age, police said. Three victims are listed in critical condition. The condition of the remaining victims vary.

Members of the fire department, the office of emergency management and other agencies are working with BPD to try to determine a motive, according to Acting Commissioner Worley, who described the crime scene as "extensive."

"Our hearts and prayers are going out to the families and friends of these victims as well as the community and our entire city."

Police urge anyone with information to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100. Anonymous reports can be made to the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-866-LOCKUP.
