Famed crocodile expert pleads guilty to bestiality, possessing child abuse material, and animal abuse; had 'torture room'

A famous zoologist pleaded guilty in Australian court to heinous charges involving bestiality, possession of child abuse material, and animal torture.

52-year-old Adam Robert Corden Britton, known as a crocodile expert and conservationist, admitted to filming himself torturing numerous dogs and sharing the videos online under pseudonyms.

Prosecutors said that Britton's "sadistic sexual interest" led to him creating a "torture room" inside of a shipping container at his property, where he abused 42 dogs, most of which died.

Investigators said that he would go on online forums where people were trying to find a new home for their pets because of work or travel commitments. He was caught when someone sent a video of his animal abuse to law enforcement authorities.

He also pleaded guilty to four counts of accessing and transmitting child abuse material.

Chief Justice Michael Grant made the rare decision to excuse some officers from the court because the evidence in the case was so disturbing.

"These facts contain material that can only be described as grotesque and perverse acts of cruelty which is confronting and distressing and which in my assessment have the potential to cause nervous shock," said Grant.

Britton has lived in Australia for 20 years and was born in the U.K. At one point, he worked with famed biologist and natural historian Sir David Attenborough on a docuseries. His wife has reportedly fled Australia and changed her name after the horrifying crimes came to light.

Prosecutors say Britton had used the Telegram messaging application to share his videos with like-minded people.

“I had repressed it. In the last few years I let it out again, and now I can’t stop. I don’t want to,” he wrote to an anonymous Telegram account.

Britton is scheduled for sentencing in December.
