An actress who once played the mom in a popular baseball movie now has a son playing Major League Baseball nearly 30 years later.

Back in 1994, Ashley Crow starred in the hit movie "Little Big League," the charming story of 12-year-old Billy Heywood, who inherits the Minnesota Twins from his late grandfather. Crow played the role of Jenny Heywood, Billy's mom.

Crow, known mostly for her roles on TV programs such as "As the World Turns" and "Heroes," as well as supporting roles in movies such as "Minority Report" with Tom Cruise and "The Good Son" with Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood, was 34 at the time "Little Big League" hit the big screen. She was also recently divorced from her first husband. She later married "Heroes" co-star Matthew John Armstrong, and the two have one child together: Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Crow-Armstrong, born eight years after "Little Big League" was released, grew up in Los Angeles and showed an early aptitude for baseball. In 2020, he was drafted by the New York Mets but was later traded to the Chicago Cubs.

For the last couple of years, he has been bouncing between Double-A and Triple-A baseball teams in Tennessee and Iowa, putting up solid batting stats and frequently making highlight reels for his defensive plays in center field, according to the Sporting News.

Meanwhile, as the 2023 MLB regular season heads to a close, the Chicago Cubs remain in strong contention for a National League wild card spot and sit just three games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for control of the Central Division. In an attempt to shore up their roster and secure a place in the postseason, the Cubs have called up a number of minor-league prospects, including Crow-Armstrong, for a crucial three-game series against the Colorado Rockies, which began Monday night.

The Cubs won that first game 5-4, and Crow-Armstrong made an appearance as a pinch runner in the top of the seventh inning, meaning that the son of a baseball movie mom is now officially an MLB player.

He is expected to be a member of the active roster for the game Tuesday night as well.

When asked, 21-year-old Crow-Armstrong — sometimes referred to by his initials, PCA — called his mom's old movie "great."
