The child's parents are considered missing

A 3-year-old boy from Florida was found sleeping in a box on a stranger's porch in New York this week, and his parents' rental vehicle was discovered nearby — completely charred with human remains inside. The child's parents are considered missing, and police are asking for the public's assistance as detectives attempt to piece together the complicated case.

What are the details?

Monday morning, 3-year-old Noelvin was found around 8 a.m. — sleeping in a box, wrapped in a blanket, wearing nothing but a diaper — on the porch of a home in Buffalo, New York. The woman who owned the home said the child kept talking about a "fire" and a "car." The woman leaves the box out on her porch for stray cats.

Authorities found a torched vehicle behind a storage facility less than a mile from the house that night, with evidence of two burned bodies inside. Buffalo Police Department Captain Jeff Rinaldo told reporters Tuesday that it was too early to link the scenarios together, ABC News reported.

What police do know, is that Noelvin's parents are Nicole Merced Plaud, 24, and Miguel Valentin-Colon, 31. They are from around Orlando, Florida, and are missing, along with their friend, 29-year-old Dhamyl Roman-Audiffred.

"We believe that these people may have arrived in Buffalo sometime late Sunday night and were here and possibly are still in the Buffalo area," Rinaldo said. "We will not know the identities of the people found in the vehicle for quite some time. It is requiring the services of a forensic anthropologist to put together exactly what happened."

Rinaldo added, "I can't stress enough the vehicle was completely incinerated and the contents were nothing but ashes."

Noelvin's paternal grandmother told WFTV-TV she has no idea what her son and his family were doing in New York, and learned her grandson had been found after seeing him on a Facebook post. She immediately flew to New York to claim him, but he remains in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The grandmother says her son is a truck driver, his girlfriend is a stay-at-home mom, and that Noelvin has wonderful parents who love him very much.

The Buffalo News reported that police found more than four pounds of cocaine in the hotel room where the family was staying in New York, possibly providing a clue as to the purpose of their road-trip.

Authorities have released surveillance footage showing two persons of interest — neither of whom meet the descriptions of any of the missing persons — carrying a gas can near the scene of the burned car and walking away with a small child around 3 a.m. A flash can be seen in the background, possibly indicating the blaze coming from the vehicle.
