3 young boys go missing in Oregon — yet descriptions of them list their 'pronouns,' not their sex

Three young boys, all brothers, went missing in Oregon while in the care of their mother and an adult male. The children were eventually found, but the descriptions released to the public to help locate the missing boys gave only their "pronouns," not their sex or gender.

On Tuesday, the Oregon DHS Child Welfare Division issued an alert that three brothers — 7-year-old Brantley Hinson, 4-year-old Logan Hinson, and 3-year-old River Hinson — had gone missing. They were last seen on June 17, 10 days earlier, in Bend, Oregon, about 165 miles southeast of Portland. They had been with their mother, Stephanie Lloyd, and a man named Kyle McMullen.

Reports indicate that all five people had since gone missing, and authorities at the time expressed concern about the welfare of the children. Oregon DHS "believes that they may be at risk and is searching for them to assess their safety," said an announcement, according to KTVZ. ODHS also indicated that the children may even have traveled to Idaho or Alaska, presumably with Lloyd and/or McMullen.

In order to help the community identify the kids, a description of each child was also given in the ODHS announcement. The descriptions included much of the usual information: name, age, and hair color. However, rather than provide one of the most important characteristics of identification — biological sex — the descriptions offered "pronouns" instead.

And even those pronoun descriptions were incomplete. While Brantley and Logan were both listed as preferring "he/him" pronouns, the pronoun section for little River appears to have been left blank. News reports have elsewhere referred to the three as "boys," suggesting that River likely also prefers "he/him" pronouns. A screenshot of the descriptions can be seen here.

The same announcement that listed pronouns rather than sex or gender also apparently stated that the "ODHS works to do everything it can to find these missing children and assess their safety."

Thankfully, the three boys were located on Wednesday morning, and all are believed to be safe and unharmed. ODHS issued a statement saying it was "thankful for the community support to find" Brantley, Logan, and River. No further details regarding how or where they were found were provided, and no updates about Lloyd or McMullen were given.
