GOP chair calls out Kamala Harris for this 'absolutely disgusting' comment

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel slammed Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) for comments she called "absolutely disgusting" about the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"Do you see any parallels?"

McDaniel registered her disgust with the California Democrat on her social media account.

"Kamala Harris is trying to launch her 2020 campaign off of comparing ICE officers to the KKK, and it's absolutely disgusting," she tweeted.

McDaniel posted the video of a fiery exchange between Sen. Harris and Ronald D. Vitiello, the acting ICE director before the Senate Homeland Security Committee. Vitiello was seeking confirmation to be the permanent director of the immigration enforcement department.

The topic came up as Harris was questioning Vitiello about a tweet from 2015 where he compared the Democratic Party to the Ku Klux Klan. Vitiello acknowledged that it was wrong to use the comparison.

Harris asked Vitiello to explain why the KKK was considered a domestic terrorist group, and he answered that they used "fear and force" to influence politics based on race and ethnicity.

Harris then made a direct parallel from the KKK to the department of ICE.

“Are you aware that there’s a perception that ICE is administering its power in a way that is causing fear and intimidation particularly among immigrants and specifically among immigrants coming from Mexico and Central America?” Harris asked pointedly.

"And do you see any parallels?" she asked.

Vitiello strongly rejected the comparison.

Here's the entire interaction between Vitiello and Harris:

Sen. Harris is widely considered to be a likely candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
