Japanese soccer team eliminated from World Cup in heartbreaking fashion; then showed ultimate class

Japan's soccer team made a bunch of new fans Monday on the soccer pitch during a gutsy performance against heavily favored Belgium, which ultimately saw them lose in heartbreaking fashion when Belgium scored the go-ahead goal with seconds left in stoppage time.

But it's what they did next that really impressed many people across the globe: they left their locker room in utterly impeccable condition despite their heart-wrenching FIFA World Cup elimination, which was held in Russia on Monday.

The team even left a thank you note — written in Russian.

What are the details?

Japan faced off against Belgium in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Round of 16 match at Rostov Arena on in Rostov-on-Don, Russia on Monday.

Despite being huge underdogs against the No. 3 ranked team in the world, Japan led the game, 2-0, with just 25 minutes left on the clock in the second half. Belgium stunned the Japanese side, however, with a flurry of late goals to take the win 3-2.

Despite the heartbreaking elimination from the competition as a result of the loss, Japan were good enough sports to leave their locker rooms utterly spotless.

Twitter user Training Ground Guru shared a photo of the after-pic, writing, "This was Japan's dressing room after heart breaking injury-time defeat by Belgium. They left it spotless... and even a note saying 'thank you' in Russian."

At the time of this writing, the tweet has gone viral, and has been liked over 10,000 times and retweeted over 4,000 times.

It wasn't just the players who left the stadium and its locker room in pristine condition, either — according to The Independent, Japanese fans cleaned up any messes that they might have made throughout the course of the game, and made it look as if they'd never even been there.
