Capitol Police arrest man accused of threatening to chop up Sen. Rand Paul and his family with an ax

U.S. Capitol Police have arrested a man who allegedly threatened to kill Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and his family, according to a tweet the senator posted Monday afternoon.

"Thank you to the US Capitol Police for their arrest of the man who recently threatened to kill my family and me," Paul tweeted.

Paul first mentioned the accusation while he was speaking at an event in Litchfield, Kentucky, earlier in the day.

"Capitol Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man who threatened to kill me and chop up my family with an ax," Paul said, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal. "It's just horrendous that we have to deal with things like this."

What did the police say?

Capitol Police declined to comment citing an ongoing investigation, Fox News reported.

What else?

The Republican lawmaker has faced other attacks and threats over the past year.

In November, Paul's neighbor, Rene Boucher, attacked and injured him while he was mowing the lawn at his home in Bowling Green.

Boucher, 59, claimed he tackled Paul in retaliation for unsightly tree branches, sticks, and leaves that had been piled up on their property line.

Last month, Boucher received a sentence of 30 days prison, a fine of $10,000, and 100 hours of community service for the crime. The neighbor, who's a registered Democrat, according to the Kentucky State Board of Elections, denied claims that the attack was politically motivated.

Over a year ago, Paul was on the baseball diamond when an anti-GOP liberal opened fire at a Republican congressional baseball practice. Several staffers were shot, including Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was seriously injured.

Paul escaped unharmed.

"It's been a year where we're becoming more and more aware of these threats," Paul told the Courier-Journal.
