Former first lady Barbara Bush was laid to rest Saturday morning during an emotional service at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston.

Current first lady Melania Trump, former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton were also in attendance, as were their wives, Michelle and Hillary. And of course, the entire Bush family was there, including former President George W. Bush and Lara Bush and his siblings. But it was Barbara's husband, 41st U.S. President George H.W. Bush, who sent the loudest message in the coolest of ways.

During the ceremony, Bush, who is known for his love of colorful socks, wore socks adorned with books.

As BuzzFeed noted, "Barbara Bush long pushed a love for reading, public libraries, and literacy, and founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy."

Indeed, historian and presidential biographer Jon Meacham also noted this fact during his touching eulogy of Barbara, whom he called "the first lady of the greatest generation."

"She believed literacy a fundamental, civil, and human right and gave the cause her all," he said.

George and Barbara were married for 73 years.
