Gunman fires at homeowner and misses. Then homeowner pulls out his own gun — and aims much better.

A Dallas man returned home Monday night to find a gunman coming out of his backyard, WFAA-TV reported.

Upon seeing the homeowner pull up in his car, the suspect shot at the homeowner through his windshield, the station said.

The suspect missed the homeowner, police told the Dallas Morning News.

But the victim didn't enter the fray empty-handed — he produced his own handgun and fired back at the suspect, police told the paper.

And his aim was true. The homeowner's shot hit the suspect, police told the Morning News.

The homeowner then backed into the street and called 911, police added to the paper.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said, adding that the homeowner wasn't injured.

Both handguns were recovered at the scene, WFAA said.
