George Zimmerman Calls 911 After Man Punched Him in the Face Allegedly for Bragging About Killing Trayvon Martin

“He recognized me. He told me he was going to kill me ..."

George Zimmerman was punched in the face over the weekend by man who allegedly believed he was "bragging" about killing Trayvon Martin, KABC-TV said, citing a sheriff's report.

The incident occurred at Gators Riverside Grille in Sanford, Florida, about 5:45 p.m. Sunday, KABC said, citing the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

According to the report, Zimmerman approached a table to speak to a man about his tattoos when a couple at the table said Zimmerman began bragging about himself and even pulled out an I.D. card.

"I love your tattoos, my name is George Zimmerman, you know that guy who killed Trayvon Martin?" Zimmerman allegedly said, according to a witness statement.

The report added that a large man in an orange shirt identified as "Eddie" came up to Zimmerman and asked, "You're bragging about that?" before warning him to leave the establishment. Zimmerman told deputies the man came up to him two minutes later and punched him in the face and knocked a phone out of the hands of a friend of Zimmerman who attempted to record the incident.

Zimmerman then called 911. WFTV-TV obtained the recording of the call, in which a dispatcher asked, “What started the argument?”

“He recognized me," Zimmerman replied. "He told me he was going to kill me he told me he'd (expletive) shoot me and he punched me in the face.”

According to Zimmerman's statement to deputies, he wasn't bragging about killing Martin — but people at the table asked him if he was Martin's killer. When he was challenged to prove it, Zimmerman told deputies he showed his I.D. and explained he shot Martin in self-defense.

At that point, Zimmerman said the man identified as Eddie came up and asked if he was bragging about the 2012 killing, in which Zimmerman was acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges.

Zimmerman told deputies he stated to the man, "I am not looking for any trouble."

"He said he's going to kill me," Zimmerman said on the 911 call. "You need to send like three or four cops.”

Deputies said the man who punched Zimmerman was wanted for battery and was last seen riding off on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, KABC reported.
