Trump Apologizes for Calling Warren 'Pocahontas' — But Not For the Reason You Might Think

"I do regret calling her Pocahontas..."

Donald Trump said Monday he does regret calling Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) "Pocahontas" because he feels it's an insult to the renowned Native American.

"I do regret calling her Pocahontas, because I think it’s a tremendous insult to Pocahontas," the presumptive Republican nominee told Fox News host Bill O'Reilly. "So, to Pocahontas, I would like to apologize to you."

In response to Trump's apology, O'Reilly asked the billionaire businessman if he would consider tapping Warren as his "ambassador to Tonga."

"No, she wouldn’t be my first choice," Trump replied. "You know, she’s been a very, very poor senator. You know the funny thing about Elizabeth Warren, she’s been a lousy senator. She’s done a terrible job."

Throughout his campaign, Trump has repeatedly referred to Warren as "Pocahontas," reigniting past controversy over the senator's claim of Native American heritage.

Warren has been a frequent critic of Trump, attacking the real estate developer's background and the controversial remarks he has made in the past about women and minorities.
