Donald Trump has won the Florida primary — beating home-state candidate Sen. Marco Rubio by a significant margin.
The first returns show businessman and 2016 front-runner Trump with 46.1 percent of the vote, Rubio had 26.6 percent and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz followed with 16.5 percent. Ohio Gov. John Kasich was at 6.7 percent with 34 percent reporting, according to the Associated Press. The AP projected Trump's win immediately after the final polls closed in the state.
Florida is a winner-take-all state and the biggest prize of Super Tuesday 3, with 99 delegates up for grabs for Republicans.

The loss on his home turf is embarrassing for Rubio, who pledged that his campaign was going to "shock the country" with better-than-expected results on Tuesday — but it was not to be.
Trump's impressive victory in Rubio's home state may call into question how much longer Rubio will continue his 2016 campaign.
