Celebrity Pastor' Who Officiated the Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Wedding Explains What the 'Gospel' Is

"Being changed from the inside out."

He made international headlines after officiating the wedding of reality star Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West back in 2014, and now Pastor Rich Wilkerson, Jr. is out with a new book and a TV docu-drama of his own, hoping to use both to spread the gospel message.

Wilkerson, whose book titled, "Sandcastle Kings" recently hit stands and whose Oxygen TV show "Rich in Faith" airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET, recently came on The Church Boys podcast to discuss Jesus, his relationship with Kardashian and West and plenty more.

The interview opened with a question about what the gospel means, with Wilkerson wasting no time in offering up a robust explanation.

"The gospel means 'the good news' — and what is 'the good news?'" he rhetorically asked. "The good news is that God sent his son Jesus and Jesus came and took everything we deserve, which is sin, punishment and death, so that we could get everything he deserves, which is life — and life more abundantly — and eternal life."

The pastor went on to call Jesus' sacrifice the "great exchange," adding that "he who knew no sin became sin so that we might be righteous." Salvation, he said, he not something that mankind can earn, but that it is a gift that can only be received through faith and grace.

"The gospel is not a message of behavior modification. The gospel is a message of heart transformation," Wilkerson said. "That I'm being changed from the inside out."

The pastor also discussed entertainment headlines that often describe him as a "celebrity pastor," saying that this title was never something that he sought out, but that he has simply been walking "the path that God has created."

Wilkerson, who met West at his father — Rich Wilkerson Sr.'s — church in Miami a few years back, said that the two "continue to be good friends," which is why he officiated the 2014 wedding between the rapper and Kardashian.
