MSNBC Asks Hillary Clinton If She Wants to 'Apologize' to Americans for Email Scandal — Here's Her Two-Pronged Answer

"At the end of the day..."

When asked if she’d like to apologize to Americans over the private email scandal that has embroiled her presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton admitted conducting State Department business on a private email server while secretary of state wasn’t the “best idea.”

She did not offer a straightforward apology for any of her actions, though she later said she was sorry that the scandal has been "confusing" to people.

"At the end of the day, I am sorry that this has been confusing to people and has raised a lot of questions, but there are answers to all these questions," she said. "And I take responsibility and it wasn't the best choice."

Clinton was careful with her words as MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell pried for her reaction to the email scandal in an exclusive interview that aired Friday. At one point, she admitted that she now “disagrees” with her decision to use only a private email account, but maintained she followed the rules and law.

Pressed on why she chose to delete 30,000 emails, Clinton said the State Department requested "work-related" emails, which she says she provided, but her "personal" emails were deleted.

"I was not thinking a lot when I got in...we had so many problems around the world," Clinton said. "I didn't really stop and think, 'what kind of email system will there be?'"

"Does it raise judgement questions?" Mitchell asked.

"You know, I don't think so," Clinton replied.
