Read the Scathing Statement From Fox News Blasting Donald Trump for Advancing ‘Conspiracy Theories’

"Perhaps Mr. Trump thinks it's advantageous to his poll numbers to keep talking about Megyn..."

A Fox News spokesperson issued a scathing statement Friday night in response to "conspiracy theories" that suggested host Megyn Kelly's vacation is a result of the network's feud with Donald Trump.

After it was announced earlier this week that Kelly would be taking a 10-day vacation, rumors swirled that it was a result of her pressing Trump at last week's GOP debate.

On Friday, during an appearance on NewsMax TV, Trump suggested there "probably was" a connection.

In a statement, Fox News forcefully responded to the claim.

"The conspiracy theories about Megyn Kelly’s vacation rank up there with UFO's, the moon landing and Elvis being alive. Megyn is on a pre-planned, annual summer vacation with her family, which is much deserved. To imply otherwise as Donald Trump and his campaign operatives have is not only wildly irresponsible, but downright bizarre," a spokesperson said, in a statement provided to TheBlaze.

"Perhaps Mr. Trump thinks it's advantageous to his poll numbers to keep talking about Megyn, but that doesn't change the fact that Roger Ailes has fully supported her and her tough journalistic questioning since day one and is thrilled with the added exposure from the debate, which resulted in even higher ratings of The Kelly File this week," the statement continued.

It added, "Anyone who knows Roger is aware of how historically and consistently loyal he is to all of his talent and how he protects them at all costs. As Governor Terry Branstad said today, 'when you’re a candidate, you’ve got to basically answer the questions. You can’t just attack the person asking the questions. That doesn’t work.'"

The sharp words come after Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said earlier this week that he had called Trump and "the air had been cleared." Later that night, Kelly addressed the "dust up" on her program and said it was time to it behind them and "get back to the news."
