Has the NYPD Made Peace With Mayor de Blasio? Here's What Just Happened at Fallen Officer's Wake.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (R) and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton (C) arrive to attend a wake for police officer Wenjian Liu at a funeral home in New York's borough of Brooklyn on January 3, 2015. Liu and partner Rafael Ramos were shot in the head on December 20, 2014, as they sat in their patrol car by suspected gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who police said had a clear anti-police bias and posted Instagram comments that were anti-government and referenced two unarmed black men killed recently by police. Has the NYPD Made Peace With Mayor de Blasio? Here's What Just Happened at Fallen Officer's Wake.

NEW YORK (TheBlaze/AP) — New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner William Bratton were saluted as they entered a funeral home for an officer's wake.

The action by officers Saturday at the wake of Wenjian Liu was in contrast to the hundreds of police who turned their backs to video screens showing the mayor speaking at last week's funeral of Liu's police partner, Rafael Ramos.

The two were shot to death in their police cruiser two weeks ago by a gunman who later killed himself.

Liu's funeral will be held Sunday.

The respect shown by officers Saturday came after Bratton told police that a "hero's funeral is about grieving, not grievance."

Some officers had faulted de Blasio for sympathizing with police protesters, and Bratton has previously said that officers are not likely to make peace with the mayor anytime soon as their differences run deep.
