In the newly surfaced audio, said to have been secretly recorded during a 2012 therapy session with Collins and his estranged wife Faye Grant, a man said to be Collins openly discusses his sexual behavior with underage girls.

"The exposure happened a couple of times," the man says, speaking about a girl he said he exposed himself to starting when she was 11. "There was never any conversation around it. There was one instance ... where for there was one moment of touching where ... I put her hand on my penis."

At one point, the woman, whom TMZ identifies as Grant, reacts with a horrified, "Oh my God."

The man goes on to admit to improper sexual exposure with three young girls. The victims' names were withheld to protect their identities.

The first victim mentioned is said to be a New York relative of Collins' first wife, Marjorie Weinman, according to the New York Daily News; the second victim is said to be a girl from Los Angeles and the third is another 12- or 13-year-old girl from New York.

As TMZ noted, the man mentions a "list" and "disclosure," which TMZ reported was in reference to previous admissions Collins made to his wife before attending therapy together. Collins and Grant are in the process of divorcing after 27 years of marriage.

The New York Police Department told TheBlaze Tuesday that an investigation is underway.

"There is a formal complaint on file and the incident is being investigated by the Manhattan Special Victims Squad," read a brief request for comment from officer Kim Y. Royster with the NYPD's public information division.

The New York Daily News also reported that a police source said sex crimes investigators went to Los Angeles several weeks ago to interview Collins and confirmed: “We have an active investigation involving Stephen Collins."
