Three Victims of Shooting Rampage Identified. Grieving Father Says, 'You Don't Think It'll Happen to Your Child Until It Does.

"When will this insanity stop?"

Police on Saturday night identified three of the shooting victims, all University of California Santa Barbara students, from Friday’s night’s drive-by shooting massacre in Isla Vista.

Katie Cooper, 22, and Veronika Weiss, 19, were fatally shot outside a sorority, police said.

Cooper majored art history and archeology at UCSB, according to her Facebook page.

Weiss, of Westlake Village, has been a member of the Westlake High School water polo team, her friends told KABC.

Friends told reporters that Weiss and Cooper were sisters at the Delta Delta Delta sorority, according to KNBC-TV in Los Angeles.

Police said the other three people killed were stabbed at the suspect's residence before the shooting rampage began.

Police named the suspect, 22-year-old Elliot Rodger, who they said died from what they believe to be a result of a self-inflicted gunshot.

The third identified victim, Christopher Michael-Martinez, 20, was fatally shot later at a deli.

The father of Michael-Martinez gave a tearful statement outside the Santa Barbara Sheriff's department: "You don't think it'll happen to your child until it does."

Richard Martinez, who noted his son was an only child, added:

Chris was a really great kid. Ask anyone who knew him. His death has left our family lost and broken.

Why did Chris die? Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA. They talk about gun rights. What about Chris' right to live?

When will this insanity stop? When will enough people say, "Stop this madness!" We don't have to live like this. Too many have died.  We should say to ourselves, "Not one more!"
