Thousands Turn Out to Grant Terminally Ill 8-Year-Old Girl One Simple Wish

Thousands of individuals gathered Saturday night outside the home of a terminally ill 8-year-old cancer patient to sing Christmas carols to her.

Delaney "Laney" Brown was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in May. On Tuesday, her parents announced on Facebook that the 8-year-old only has days or weeks to live.

Organizers immediately mobilized to fulfill one of Laney's bucket list wishes, which was to hear the community sing Christmas carols, according to the Reading Eagle.

An estimated 5,000 to 7,000 people ultimately turned up outside her home singing traditional Christmas tunes, such as "Silent Night," "Jingle Bells" and "Joy to the World," the Reading Eagle reported. The group ended with "Happy Birthday," since Laney had just turned 8-years-old the night before.

Girls from Laney's dance group also performed in front of her home.

"I was sad because she has cancer. I want to make her feel better," Kaylee Jester, 8, told the Reading Eagle. "I love her and miss her."

Another participant, Mackenzie Melcher, 9, reportedly said she just "wanted to make the little girl happy."

After the event, Laney's mother turned to Facebook to thank the community for their outpouring of support.

"I thank you all for showing me and my family your love and support during this difficult holiday season, but please rejoice in the hope that one little baby gave all of us when he was given to save," she said. "Please send us your prayers for faith and strength. Thank God everyday for all that he has blessed each one of us with. Our children are the best part of ourselves and we are all God's children whom he clearly loves."
