(Update) Howard Kurtz gets Bashir 'EXCLUSIVE' that was reported elsewhere first

Update:Kurtz got back to us. See his comment after the jump...

Media critic Howard Kurtz has an "EXCLUSIVE" in his latest column about Martin Bashir's resignation from MSNBC. Only, it's a bit warmed over.

FoxNews.com

From Kurtz (emphasis added):

Bashir resigned from MSNBC Wednesday over the sliming of Sarah Palin after meeting with the network’s president, Phil Griffin.

But this isn’t the first time that Bashir has had to apologize for his remarks about a woman. While working for ABC News in the summer of 2008, he was addressing an Asian American Journalists Association convention in Chicago, with his “20/20” colleague Juju Chang also on stage. He began commenting on her dress.

Is that the "EXCLUSIVE" we're reading his piece for?

No. Kurtz goes on to explain that that incident was first reported by New York magazine in 2008.

Maybe this is it (emphasis added):

A little digging reveals that ABC quietly suspended Bashir after the incident. He wrote an apology to the Asian-American group, saying: “Upon reflection, it was a tasteless remark that I now bitterly regret. I … hope that the continuing work of the organization will not be harmed or undermined by my moment of stupidity.”

Nope... That was reported in 2008 by the TV Newser blog. It was even rehashed Wednesday by Deadline Hollywood.

As far as original content goes, the only bit in Kurtz's column is the part where he says he requested comment on the matter from an ABC spokesman. The spokesman declined to say anything.

We've requested comment from Kurtz.

Wait, does that mean TheBlaze Blog has an "EXCLUSIVE"?!

Update: Kurtz tells us by email: "I did not see the Deadline piece so believed the ABC suspension was exclusive when my reporting led me to it."
