Boehner Wants Obama to Answer These 14 Key Questions on His Syria Action Plan

"What is the intended effect of the potential military strikes?"

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) requested Wednesday that President Barack Obama “clearly articulate” to Congress the “objectives, policy, and strategy for any potential intervention in Syria.”

Should the president choose to get America involved in Syria, the letter warns, it could have implications that stretch far beyond the war-torn country.

It will affect “America’s credibility across the globe, especially in places like Iran,” the letter reads.

Acknowledging that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad may have crossed President Obama’s so-called “red line” by using chemical weapons on Syrian civilians, the Speaker’s letter goes on to pose some basic questions regarding possible U.S. involvement in the region.

“Does the Administration have contingency plans should the strikes implicate foreign power interests, such as Iran or Russia?” Speaker Boehner asks in the letter. “Does the Administration consider such a response to be precedent-setting, should further humanitarian atrocities occur?”

“What result is the Administration seeking from its response?” the letter continues. “What is the intended effect of the potential military strikes?”

The letter concludes by reminding President Obama that he must first seek Congressional approval before committing U.S. troops and/or resources to Syria.
