Petition for White House to Declare Muslim Brotherhood a Terrorist Group Gains Enough Signatures to Force Response

“...has a long history of violent killings & terrorizing opponents."

A petition on the White House’s “We the People” portal asking the Obama administration to “Declare [the] Muslim Brotherhood organization as a terrorist group” has gained enough signatures that the White House must now respond.

According to the site’s terms of participation, a petition has to cross a threshold of 100,000 within 30 days in order to “require a response” from the White House.

“Muslim Brotherhood has a long history of violent killings & terrorizing opponents,” the petition states. “Also MB has direct ties with most terrorist groups like Hamas.”

“A book by one of their prominent figures, Sayyid Qutb, called Ma'alim fi-l-Tariq is the bible for many terrorist groups,” says the petition which was created on July 7th by a site user identified as “H.F.” from La Mesa, California.

“The Muslim Brotherhood has shown in the past few days that it is willing to engage in violence and killing of innocent civilians in order to invoke fear in the hearts of its opponents. This is terrorism,” says the petition, referring to the time around July 3rd when Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated President Mohammed Morsi was ousted from power.

“We ask the US government to declare MB as a terrorist group for a safer future for all of us,” concludes the petition.

As of this writing, the petition has drawn more than 130,000 signatures in the three-and-a-half weeks since it’s been created.

Currently, both the Palestinian Hamas and Egypt’s Gama’a al-Islamiyya (Islamic Group) which have had relationships with the Muslim Brotherhood are listed on the State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

As Daily News Egypt reports, the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Building and Development Party in May called on the U.S. “to release its spiritual leader Omar Abdel Rahman from prison and to remove the group from the Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) list.”
