Ted Cruz Compared to Notorious Nazi Sympathizer and 1950s-era Sen. Joe McCarthy in Same TV Segment

“This guy goes pretty far, but I think he fits in the tradition of Father Coughlin, and McCarthy..."

Leave it to MSNBC host Chris Matthews to compare Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to notorious Nazi sympathizer and radio host Father Coughlin and anti-communist Sen. Joe McCarthy in the same TV segment.

Matthews slammed Cruz for saying there were more communists than declared Republicans working at Harvard Law School.

"I’m assuming, of course, that the communists would vote for the president," Matthews said sarcastically.

“This guy goes pretty far, but I think he fits in the tradition of Father Coughlin, and [Joe] McCarthy, and of course, maybe to a lesser extent, Pat Buchanan, and [Bill] O’Reilly,” he added.

It's unlikely that Cruz will be bothered or surprised by Matthews' most recent attack. In a recent radio interview, the Texas Republican said the fact that the media is "hysterical" over what he is doing just means he is doing something right.
