Whoops! 'Meet the Press' Debt Clock Off by Over $3 Trillion

NBC News' "Meet the Press" had a still image of the U.S. national debt on the bottom right corner of the screen during a Sunday discussion of the "fiscal cliff" deal.

The only problem?

It was a little over $3 trillion off.  That and -- at our current rate of spending -- a still graphic with that many digits would never be accurate for more than about a second.

As many have pointed out, the U.S. national debt is​far closer to $16.4 trillion than $13.1.  In fact, the debt ceiling is quickly becoming the next most pressing debate in Washington.

Twitter user Rick VanMeter was one of the first to catch the error, posting this photo on Twitter:

The former Comptroller General of the United States, David Walker, even scolded NBC for the misleading graphic.

"Your debt clock on the screen is way out of date. It's over $16 trillion not over $13 trillion," he wrote on Twitter.

Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit concluded: "No wonder liberals aren’t worried about the debt crisis…They don’t even know what it is!"
