14-year-old Chicago boy allegedly kills man who attacked his mother — now, rapper Nicki Minaj wants to help send the kid to college: 'A true hero'

Rapper Nicki Minaj lauded a Chicago teen as "a true hero" after the young man allegedly shot and killed a man who repeatedly punched his mother over a dispute about a fast-food order. Minaj was so impressed with the 14-year-old that she even offered to help pay for his college tuition someday.

The deadly incident began just after 11 p.m. on June 18, when Carlishia Hood, 35, and her 14-year-old son, whose name has not been released, went to a Maxwell Street Express fast-food restaurant on the southside of Chicago. While there, Hood got into a heated argument with 32-year-old Jeremy Brown, another restaurant patron.

A bystander filmed much of the interaction between Hood and Brown. According to the video, Brown repeatedly yelled at Hood, telling her to "get [her] food" and even threatening "to knock [her] out" if she said "one more thing." When Hood appeared to say something else in response, Brown began wailing on her with his fists. Prosecutors later alleged that Brown punched Hood in the face at least three times.

Reports indicate that Hood then sent text messages to her 14-year-old son, who had been waiting in the car during the physical altercation, demanding that the teen shoot the man who had attacked her. The boy apparently complied because surveillance footage seemed to capture him firing two rounds at Brown, who died at the scene. Hood also allegedly ordered the boy to shoot another witness who supposedly laughed about the incident, but the boy refused and the mother and son left the restaurant.

They later turned themselves into police, as TheBlaze reported last week. They both had been charged with first-degree murder and other crimes. But Cooks County State Attorney Kim Foxx dropped the charges on Monday. "Based upon our continued review and in light of emerging evidence, today the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) has moved to dismiss the charges against Carlishia Hood and her 14-year-old son," Foxx's office said in a statement. "Based upon the facts, evidence, and the law we are unable to meet our burden of proof in the prosecution of these cases."

Now, not only is the teen out of juvenile detention, but he may have many of his future college expenses paid as well, thanks to Minaj. On Tuesday, the 40-year-old rapper with the nickname "Barbie" reportedly posted a Story about the situation on Instagram. "That 14 year old boy that backed dat hammer out when that grown a** man was punching his mother in the face as if she were a man is a true hero," Minaj wrote, according to a screenshot shared by the Daily Mail.

"If he wants to go to college, I'd love to help. It's what any son should've done for their mother. She raised a dope kid and should be so proud," Minaj continued.

"Also, God knew before she knew that she'd be attacked that day and made sure they had protection on deck," she added. "God is GOOD."

Hood has now stated that she will soon file a lawsuit against the city of Chicago and the arresting officers for false arrest, malicious prosecution, and causing emotional distress. Neither Hood nor her son have any prior criminal history, and Hood had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, reports said.

"What happened to me was totally unnecessary," Hood said in a press conference about the prospective lawsuit. "Never in a million years would I have imagined being brutally attacked, beaten, and then arrested."
