12-year-old girl leads police on car chase in father's pickup truck then flees into the woods

A 12-year-old girl led police on a car chase in New Hampshire using her father's truck before eventually fleeing into the woods where she was caught.

The young girl, who used her father's white Chevrolet pickup truck, took police on a chase through several towns in New Hampshire's Cheshire County, according to WCVB 5.

Police noted the situation was dangerous, but thankfully, no one was hurt. The child was videotaped swerving in and out of her lane and coming dangerously close to hitting oncoming traffic, according to one witness.

"At one point I saw a pedestrian and my heart skipped. I'm like, this truck ... I don't know what's wrong with the driver but it was everywhere. On both sides of the road at the same time [and] kept hitting the edge," said witness Candace Connell, whose dashcam footage captured the incident.

Police reportedly had a vehicle ahead and behind the suspect's car and eventually deployed spike strips in an attempt to use the safest way possible to end the dangerous chase. The truck's tires were popped in Winchester, New Hampshire.

The pickup truck was also seen on video driving off the road and onto the grass before swerving back onto the main roadway.

In total, the chase lasted approximately 30 minutes before the girl fled into the woods on foot. She was quickly apprehended, authorities reported. The girl was placed in protective custody before being released back to her family.

A similar, yet more dangerous incident happened in Nebraska earlier in 2023 when a 13-year-old girl took police on a 100 mph chase with an 11-year-old boy in the car.

Police performed a "tactical vehicle intervention" to stop the Nissan Pathfinder that the child was driving.

Shockingly, troopers found a firearm, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the car. The girl was charged with flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and numerous traffic violations.

At the same time, the young boy was cited for carrying a concealed weapon and being in possession of drug paraphernalia.
