WTF MSM!? Beyond the pale

Idiot …

You can’t say this … I can’t believe I need to type this in 2018. At no time is it acceptable to compare a black person to an ape, gorilla, or any other primate. It’s disgusting, its racist, and it’s horrendous. Roseanne Barr should have known that, and her tweet likening Valerie Jarrett, who is black, to a character from “Planet of the Apes” was disgusting. I’m not faulting ABC for firing her. I’d have done the same thing.

That doesn’t mean that ABC and Hollywood don’t have double standards. Of course they do. But defending Roseanne is not the hill any of us should want to die on, because what she did is indefensible. She even said so herself.

Hyperbole … You can always count on the media to take an event and spin it out of control. That’s what MSNBC’s Chris Hayes did last night. Hayes tweeted:

What Hayes and his ilk don’t get is hot takes like that are exactly why Donald Trump is the president of the United States. People felt emboldened to vote for Trump because no matter what they did, the elites like Hayes were going to call them racist backwoods yokels.

Pat on back … Is this a news report or a press release? Even CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski thought this story from ABC News was a little odd. The original, since changed, headline was “ABC network head praised for swift cancellation of ‘Roseanne’ after star’s tweet.” At the time Kaczynski sent his tweet, the article was mainly a collection of tweets praising the head of ABC’s entertainment division. The updated article does not have an editor’s note explaining the change of title.

ABC’s minions got caught in a little bit of self-praise for one of the bosses. The fact that they removed any trace of that self-praise is concerning, even more so since there isn’t even a note explaining what they’ve done.

Say what? … “The Blacklist” spoiler alert for Season 4: OK, you’re still with me. In the most shocking faked death since Elizabeth Keen reappeared alive in Season 4 of “The Blacklist,” a Russian journalist whom many believed was killed on the order of Vladimir Putin walked into a press conference in Ukraine and said hello. The journalist, Arkady Babchenko, had become an outspoken critic of Putin’s regime, and Ukrainian officials faked his death to fool someone who was planning to kill him for real.

Conservative Review’s Jordan Schachtel has the details. Not many stories truly surprise any more. This twist certainly did. It also serves as a reminder that as much as the U.S. media cries about press freedom under Trump, he’s not trying to have any of them murdered.

They like him again … There’s one thing true about the mainstream media. If you are a Republican willing to trash other Republicans, the media treats you like a rock star. The latest rebirth of a GOP media darling? Mitt Romney. After savaging Romney during the 2016 campaign, the media is now falling all over Romney because he’s out there saying things critical of President Donald Trump.

For instance, MSNBC was hyping Romney’s latest statements, saying he’s in a battle against the “far Right.” NewsBusters has the details of MSNBC’s faux praise of Romney. Mitt of course shouldn’t worry. The media will be back to trashing him as soon as they don’t need him any more.
