Levin: 'Phony' NFL anthem protests are an 'unwanted spectacle'

Friday on the radio, LevinTV host Mark Levin weighed in on renewed controversy over the NFL national anthem protests. The protests are "a bigger cultural issue" that he discussed with conservative author Shelby Steele last Sunday on "Life, Liberty & Levin."

The NFL is pausing a rule that would require all players on the field to stand during the national anthem after the AP reported a new Miami Dolphins team policy that would suspend any player who protested during the anthem. The Dolphins' policy sparked backlash, and now the NFL has backed down from telling its players to respect the anthem.

"This is a phony protest. This is a pathetic joke," Levin said.

Listen:

Levin played audio from his interview with Steele, a black American who thinks these NFL protests are "fruitless" and that "the oppression of black Americans is over with."

"This is not a civil rights movement. This isn't about social justice or equality or anything else," Levin said of the protests.

"It's a spectacle. An unwanted spectacle."
