House leaders in both parties condemn anti-Semite Omar

House leadership in both parties released statements condemning Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., after she made anti-Semitic comments on Twitter.

Following pressure from Jewish groups to speak out, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., released a statement for Democratic leadership condemning Omar's "use of anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel's supporters."

Earlier, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., issued a call for Rep. Omar to be removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee. Scalise is the second member of Republican leadership in the House to call for Omar be kicked off the committee, following House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney, R-Wy.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has vowed to take "action" against Omar, criticizing her comments as "unacceptable in this country" and making reference to action he's previously taken against Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, who came under fire last month after wondering aloud in an interview how the term "white supremacist" became offensive.

There’s no word yet on whether Democrats will remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee, or if she will face any consequences at all.
