The Left hides abortion’s evil behind words like ‘justice’

A national conversation on abortion has begun again with the news breaking Wednesday that a 17-year-old illegal immigrant from Central America underwent an abortion procedure after winning a legal fight with the Trump administration, which attempted to block her from leaving a facility in Texas where she was detained. A federal appeals court ruled in “Jane Doe” illegal immigrant’s favor Tuesday, and she went to have the abortion before the Trump administration’s Department of Justice could appeal the case to the Supreme Court.

The American Civil Liberties Union, who represented Doe in this case, is celebrating her abortion.

“Justice prevailed today for Jane Doe. But make no mistake about it, the Administration's efforts to interfere in women's decisions won't stop with Jane,” said Brigitte Amiri, senior staff attorney with the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project. “With this case we have seen the astounding lengths this administration will go to block women from abortion care. We will not stop fighting until we have justice for every woman like Jane.”

That’s not right. With this case, we have seen the astounding lengths the Left and the courts will go to create B.S. “rights” and celebrate the murder of a 16-week-old baby. At 16-weeks, an unborn baby is about the size of an avocado and is on the precipice of a major growth spurt. According to “What to Expect,” the baby’s eyes are working, perceiving light in the womb (though its eyelids are still sealed shut). The baby is capable of frowning, and squinting. Baby’s ears are working, and it can hear it’s mother’s voice while she sings. Presumably, horrifically, it can hear the murderous instruments of the abortionist. It's a terrible injustice.

It is an injustice firstly, principally, because a child was killed.  

It’s an injustice because federal courts have now created a positive right for any foreign national who comes to America illegally to be granted access to an abortion despite their legal status and detention by immigration agencies. A signal has been broadcast worldwide that America opens its arms wide and sets aside its laws for those seeking an abortion.

It’s an injustice because the government was ordered by U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan to “promptly and without delay” transport the teen to a Texas abortion provider, thus now creating a right for individuals to have their abortions facilitated by the government when there is a perceived “undue burden” preventing abortion access. Make no mistake, a precedent has been set and progressive judges will use this case to contort the definition of “undue burden” into all sorts of evil purposes.  

No one should celebrate what happened today as “justice.” But the Left, as always, is cloaking the gross evil of abortion in terms like “women’s rights” to obscure the reality.

Sometimes the Left does this literally.

Earlier this week, a pro-life student group at the University of Pennsylvania held a demonstration against abortion outside of the school library. The group, Quakers for Life, displayed 20 graphic pictures of aborted fetuses to force bypasses to confront the reality of abortion. The group explained why they had done this in a Facebook post.

“The images are shocking, and to all of us at Quakers for Life quite painful to see. But the abortion of these children was sanctioned by law - a law which most Penn students vote at all levels of government to support. Therefore, we have chosen to show the victims in public not to gain attention for ourselves but to gain attention for the victims,” Quakers for Life wrote.

“For as long as tiny children killed by abortionists are disposed of by medical waste companies and incinerators, out of sight and out of mind, the public conscience can easily ignore their existence. But when the face of legal, elective abortion is shown - when the biological humanity of legally murdered children is forced upon the viewer - many find themselves emotionally compelled to be concerned with their fate.”

Students from a pro-choice group, Penn for Reproductive Rights, saw the graphic, true depictions of abortion and decided to cover them up with sweatshirts.

"It just made me really upset, and I can imagine if I was contemplating abortion or if I had one, how upset that would make me," sophomore Hannah Rash told the Daily Pennsylvanian.

The truth of abortion is upsetting. Those graphic photos of abortions showed the truth of human lives being destroyed. Literally torn apart in the womb. The pro-choice students had to cover that truth up because their position is obviously unjust and inhumane to anyone who sees it.

The Left can no longer be permitted to hide the abomination of abortion, whether they hide it under sweatshirts or under misnomers like “justice” or “women’s rights.” Tuesday’s court decision must be unanimously condemned as an outrage and an insult to both the law and to human dignity. Lives are at stake.
