BREAKING: Trump pulls out of North Korea summit

President Donald Trump has sent a letter to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un announcing that the United States has pulled out of the June 12 meeting in Singapore.

Here's the letter:

Trump's letter follows a hostile statement from Choe Son Hui, North Korea's vice minister of foreign affairs, threatening to pull out of the meeting. Hui's statement called out Vice President Mike Pence as a "political dummy" after Pence made comments on Fox News suggesting that North Korea sought the meeting with Trump and comparing North Korean denuclearization to Libya. Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and killed in 2011, eight years after denuclearization.

“As a person involved in the U.S. affairs, I cannot suppress my surprise at such ignorant and stupid remarks gushing out from the mouth of the U.S. vice president,” Hui said.

She also warned that North Korea could "make the U.S. taste an appalling tragedy it has neither experienced nor even imagined."

President Trump announced that "based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statements," he feels it would be "inappropriate" to meet with Kim Jong Un.

"You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used," Trump wrote.

The president said this "missed opportunity is truly a sad moment in history."
