White House adviser 'shocked,' calls out CNN reporter for ‘cosmopolitan bias’

A White House adviser and a reporter had a heated exchange over a proposed immigration policy on Wednesday following news that President Donald Trump has supported a plan to cut legal immigration in half in the next five years.

If approved by Congress and signed by Trump, the plan would reduce legal immigration by half in the next five years by emphasizing professional skills over family connections. CNN reporter Jim Acosta tried to use the Statue of Liberty’s famous poem to protest the plan – but learned some history from Stephen Miller, Trump’s senior adviser for policy. Doc Thompson and the guys analyzed the exchange on Thursday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson.”

Acosta quoted the famous poem engraved on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, which says, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” The reporter protested the component of the merit-based immigration plan that would favor people who speak English, among other factors, saying that only people from Great Britain and Australia would be able to immigrate.

“I have to say, I am shocked at your statement that you think that only people from Great Britain and Australia would know English,” Miller said. “It reveals your cosmopolitan bias to a shocking degree.”

Under the new legislation, legal immigrants would be able to sponsor spouses and minor children; however, siblings, adult children and other relatives would no longer have preferences to receive visas and green cards.
