Man gets permanently banned from UNM library for asking a woman on a date

The University of New Mexico banned a man for cracking an innocent joke with a woman while he was doing research at the law library on campus. The caller, only known as David, told Pat of the unwarranted treatment he received from campus officials and highlighted the other side of sexual assault: false accusations.

"Here's something that happened to me which makes it a little bit hard to have sympathy for some of these things that are going on," said David. Several years back, I was researching for a legal case. I'm not a lawyer, I was just doing my own case. I was at the University of New Mexico law library in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I was sitting at a table doing my stuff and I needed to get some copies made. So, I went up to the counter there and asked that something be copied for me, which is a service they provide. And then they brought the copies to my table with my change and when the woman who was working there came back with my change, I jokingly said -- with like 47 cents in chage, 'Hey, with this can I buy you dinner?' She politely declined and about 15 or 20 minutes later, the police show up and excort me out of the law library and tell me not to come back ...

David went on to share that officials permanently banned him from the law library without ever hearing his side of the story. Listen to the full podcast to hear the rest of what David had to say and Pat's reaction to it all.
