Adam Rippon slammed Mike Pence but doesn’t want his Olympic experience to be about Pence?
February 14, 2018
U.S. figure skater Adam Rippon has been having a one-sided feud with Vice President Mike Pence.
Rippon, who is the first openly gay man to medal for the U.S. in the Winter Olympics, has bashed Pence for reportedly supporting gay conversion therapy in the past. He has also criticized Pence for supporting President Donald Trump.
“To stand by some of the things that Donald Trump has said and for Mike Pence to say he’s a devout Christian man is completely contradictory,” Rippon said. “If he’s OK with what’s being said about people and Americans and foreigners and about different countries that are being called ‘s**tholes,’ I think he should really go to church.”
Pence was supportive in his response:
.@Adaripp I want you to know we are FOR YOU. Don’t let fake news distract you. I am proud of you and ALL OF OUR GREAT athletes and my only hope for you and all of #TeamUSA is to bring home the gold. Go get ‘em!

In another interview, Rippon talked about why he doesn’t want to be defined as a gay athlete or have his Olympic experience be all about Pence.
“Being an athlete and going out there, you need to be strong,” Rippon said. “Your sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with this.”
So which is it?
Doc and Jeffy had some thoughts about this contradiction on today’s show.
