Lindsey Graham exposes Democrats' motive for Mueller testimony — and promises a 'deep dive' of his own

'I'm going to get to the bottom of it'

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) revealed over the weekend what he believes is the Democratic motive behind forcing special counsel Robert Mueller to testify about the Russia investigation and promised to take a "deep dive" into what many believe were abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

What did Graham say about Mueller?

Speaking with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on "Sunday Morning Futures," Graham said Democrats subpoenaed Mueller to precede impeachment of President Donald Trump.

"Well, they are trying to do is set up a case for impeachment against President Trump," Graham explained.

However, if Democrats do use Mueller as a pawn on the path to impeachment, Graham predicted it would "blow up in their face politically" and result in Trump's reelection.

"If they bring impeachment charges based on the Mueller report, it would be unfair," Graham said. "There was no underlying crime. This is all politically motivated. Does anybody really think Jerry Nadler's trying to get to the truth or that he will do a better job than Mueller?

"This is people who don't believe Trump is legitimately president. They never accepted the 2016 outcome, and they're trying to destroy his presidency," he added. "This is just another effort to destroy Donald Trump. It will blow up in their face."

Mueller was originally scheduled to testify before a joint hearing between the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees this week. However, the hearing was delayed one week in exchange for extended questioning time for lawmakers.

Mueller will now testify next Wednesday, July 24.

What did Graham say about an investigation?

After Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz concludes his investigation into potential FISA abuses — which stems from the FBI obtaining a FISA warrant to conduct surveillance on Carter Page — Graham vowed to complete his own "deep dive" into the matter.

"I promise your listeners, after Horowitz issues his report about the flawed FISA warrant, I'm going to deep dive into how all this stuff started," Graham said. "How could it go so far if there was no collusion?"

Graham said part of the motivation for his own investigation is show the public just how differently the Justice Department has treated Trump in comparison to how they treated Hillary Clinton during the inquiry into her private email server.

"When Hillary Clinton was investigated, she — people for her literally took material and beat it up with a hammer. They destroyed evidence, and no one was prosecuted. No one was flipped. Nobody was prosecuted for minor offenses to get them to talk against Clinton," Graham said.

"Everything they did to break the Trump world, they treated Clinton with kid gloves. They hated Trump. They wanted Clinton to win," he continued. "This was a politicized investigation. It should scare every American. They got a warrant against Carter Page based on a dossier prepared by a foreign agent that's a bunch of garbage."

"I'm going to get to the bottom of it and explain how one campaign was treated differently than the other to make sure it never happens again," Graham vowed.

Horowitz's FISA investigation is reportedly in its final stages.
