AOC defies CDC guidance, will continue to wear face masks, says it is 'a nice accessory when you don't want to do your makeup'

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the latest left-wing figure to not believe the science and defy the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last Thursday, the CDC announced that life could return to normal, where face masks are not necessary, for fully vaccinated Americans outdoors and in most indoor situations. However, Ocasio-Cortez won't be taking the advice from CDC health officials.

Ocasio-Cortez, who is fully vaccinated, revealed she plans to flout the CDC's new guidance on face masks in a post on Instagram, where she has nearly 9 million followers.

"NYC got hit so hard that I think some of us are going to take time adjusting as we feel comfortable," AOC wrote in a recent Instagram story, according to BizPac Review.

"Personally I'm going to keep wearing my mask in shared indoor public spaces like elevators, subway, grocery store, etc.," the Democrat from New York said, then proclaiming that Americans should make the decision as to do whatever they are comfortable with, "If you want to keep wearing your mask then do it."

Ocasio-Cortez hinted that she plans to wear face masks even after the coronavirus pandemic, "Mask wearing is also something I'll probably continue doing overall from time to time if I feel like I might be coming down with something and don't want to spread it."

Ocasio-Cortez attempted to sell the idea of wearing face coverings by saying masks are "a nice accessory when you don't want to do your makeup."

Ocasio-Cortez joins a long list of Democrats and progressives who are skeptical of the science-based decision by the CDC to loosen mask restrictions for fully vaccinated Americans.

Blue state Govs. Andrew Cuomo of New York and Phil Murphy of New Jersey will also not take heed to the new CDC mask guidance.

"In New York, we have always relied on the facts and the science to guide us throughout the worst of this pandemic and in our successful reopening," Cuomo said last week. "We have received the newly revised guidance from the CDC regarding mask wearing and social distancing for those with vaccinations and are reviewing them in consultation with Dr. Zucker and our partners and health experts in surrounding states."

"We will keep our indoor mask mandate in place in public settings as we continue to work toward our vaccination goals," Murphy said on Friday. "To be clear, we're making incredible progress, but we're not there yet."

Others who decided not to listen to the CDC regarding masks include activist David Hogg, CNN analyst Dr. Leana Wen, MSNBC contributor Dr. Jason Johnson, and "Morning Joe" hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough.

Regarding the new mask guidance from the health agency, far-left MSNBC talk show host Rachel Maddow said she'll have to "rewire" her brain to not see unmasked Americans as "threats" or "COVID deniers."
