She's jealous': Mike Huckabee defends his daughter from comedian Chelsea Handler's 'vile' comments

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Wednesday called out comedian Chelsea Handler over her recent inflammatory comments about his daughter, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

What were Handler's jokes?

Handler, in an episode of "Chelsea" that aired Friday, overtly mocked Sanders' appearance.

"That harlot that they’re dressing up and trolloping out every day?" she said of Sanders' regular White House press briefings . "I mean, one day she has no makeup on at all, the next she has six foot long eyelashes, she’s got cleavage and summer whore lipstick all over her face. Can you believe what they turned her into? A proper trollop."

How did Huckabee respond?

Huckabee, before suggesting that Handler was jealous of his daughter, told the hosts of  "Fox & Friends" that he feels sorry for the comedian for her "vile and vulgar" comments about Sanders.

"I’m surprised that there were not women on the left who at least had the decency to call her out for this," Huckabee said. "I know you’re probably expecting me to be very angry about it, but truthfully, when I read what she said and then I watched it, I felt sorry for [Handler]."

Huckabee said that he feels "sad" for Handler, and made a what appeared to be backhanded comment about her age.

"She seems like a very angry and bitter person," Huckabee said. "Look, she’s almost as old as me. So this is at a point in her life, she needs to start mellowing out. And she seems to be just in a rage. The sad thing about it, she boasts about the two abortions she had at 16. I think in many ways she’s jealous of my daughter."

The former governor, who is 62, added that the 42-year-old Handler can't understand the life that Sanders lives because it's a life Handler "has never known."

"My daughter has a husband who loves her and is wonderful to her," Huckabee explained. "My daughter has three delightful children. She’s a happy, balanced person. She enjoys life. She’s a pretty straight-laced person, goes to church, and lives a life Chelsea Handler has never known."

He added, "There’s something deep inside of Chelsea Handler that says, 'Gee, I’ve missed out on a lot, I could be raising children, but I aborted them.'"

"I feel that she's lashing out at a life that she just doesn't understand," Huckabee added, "and has never been able to embrace, and that's sad. No reason to be angry. Pray for her that she finds some peace."
