Walmart under fire after N-word is used to describe item's color on their website

Walmart on Monday was questioned by consumers after one of their third-party vendors listed a hair product's color description as "n***** brown."

Twitter user Kwani Lewis noted the description and tweeted, "Hey @Walmart what are you doing?"

Lewis shared a screenshot of the item, which was a weaving net wig cap, but the item has since been deleted from Walmart's website. Walmart removed the racial epithet and replaced the "Add to Cart" button with a notification stating that the item itself was no longer available.

“While we aim to provide accurate product information, it is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and others, and has not been verified by us,” a disclaimer provided below the product read.

Shortly after social media erupted over the controversy, a spokesperson for Walmart issued the following statement:

“We are very sorry and appalled that this third party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace. It is a clear violation of our policy, and has been removed, and we are investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened.”

The wig cap was manufactured by U.K. company Jagazi Naturals, but Chizo Onuh, the company's owner, told CNN Money that the product is counterfeit, and was sold by an "unauthorized" seller to Walmart.

Onuh in a statement said:

"We're very sorry for all the distress this has caused. We are feeling the pain here as well. It just doesn't make any sense. No one will buy the product when you put that offensive name on it."
