Horrific 'cult' allegations levied against popular R&B singer

R&B singer R. Kelly is in the headlines for some extremely devious allegations involving luring young female fans into a sexual "cult" involving extraordinarily strict rules of engagement.

Buzzfeed reported on Monday that parents of the young girls have voiced their concerns that their daughters are being held against their will by the singer — who was once arrested on child pornography charges.

Additionally, three members reported to be a part of the singer's team corroborated the concerns of the girls' parents.

Buzzfeed reporter Jim DeRogatis wrote, "They said six women live in properties rented by Kelly in Chicago and the Atlanta suburbs, and he controls every aspect of their lives: dictating what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe, when they sleep, and how they engage in sexual encounters that he records."

Some of the allegations surfaced in Buzzfeed's report includes reports that Kelly films his sexual exploits with the young women, and shows the videos off to his friends.

"A black SUV with a burly driver behind the wheel is almost always parked outside both locations," the Buzzfeed report alleges. "Kelly confiscates the women’s cell phones, they said, so they cannot contact their friends and family; he gives them new phones that they are only allowed to use to contact him or others with his permission. Kelly films his sexual activities ... and shows the videos to men in his circle."

Calling Kelly a "puppet master," the report claims that the young women even have to ask to be fed.

"You have to ask for food," the report says. "You have to ask to go use the bathroom. … [Kelly] is a master at mind control. ... He is a puppet master."

Exploitation and manipulation aren't the only aspect of the purported behavior. The report additionally claims that Kelly is physically abusive to the women in his entourage.

"If the women break any of Kelly’s 'rules' he punishes them physically and verbally," the report continues. "For example, [it was] claimed that Kelly held [a woman] against a tree and slapped her outside of a Subway sandwich shop in spring 2013 because she had been too friendly with the male cashier there."

The report also noted that Kelly demands that the women in his group wear only jogging suits because "'he doesn’t want their figures to be exposed; he doesn’t want them to look appealing.'"

In response to the allegations, Kelly's lawyer said in a statement:

"We can only wonder why folks would persist in defaming a great artist who loves his fans, works 24/7, and takes care of all of the people in his life.

"He works hard to become the best person and artist he can be. It is interesting that stories and tales debunked many years ago turn up when his goal is to stop the violence; put down the guns; and embrace peace and love.

"I suppose that is the price of fame. Like all of us, Mr. Kelly deserves a personal life. Please respect that."

An additional statement from Kelly's team read:

"Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed by the recent revelations attributed to him. Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name.”

A representative from BuzzFeed, however, claimed that they stand behind their story.

“We stand fully behind the story, which was based on nine months of interviews and old-fashioned investigative reporting,” the spokesperson said.

No charges have been filed against Kelly at the time of this writing.
