'This is an epidemic': John Ziegler on why Jussie Smollett's hate crime hoax is no 'isolated incident'

'We now live in a world where being the right kind of victim is the American dream'

On Monday's Radio Program, Mediaite writer and podcast host John Ziegler joined Glenn Beck to talk about the latest developments in "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett's alleged assault case.

They also discussed the "epidemic" of hate crime hoaxes in America, what motivates people to stage these fake attacks, and whether leftist hoaxers are likely to face legal consequences.

Ziegler offered a brief update on Smollett's highly publicized case, noting that the Chicago police have released evidence that Smollett orchestrated his own assault.

"I hope that we don't just look at this as the left wants us to, as an isolated incident or that it's somehow unique," Ziegler said. "This is an epidemic. Especially in the realm of hate-crime situations.

"We now live in a world where being the right kind of victim is the American dream," he continued. "People want to be a victim. You get adulation, you get attention, you get money in certain situations ... being the right kind of victim is the American dream today."
